Chinese mythology stories(4) - Jingwei Reclamation

Emperor Yan, the sun god, had a beloved daughter named Nwa. One day, while playing in the East China Sea, she tragically drowned in a storm. Despite Emperor Yan's grief and longing for his daughter, he could not bring her back from the dead with his light and heat.
Refusing to accept her fate, Nwa's spirit transformed into a bird known as "Jingwei."
Jingwei has a flower-shaped head, a white beak shell, red feet and claws, and is similar in size to a crow.
Filled with resentment towards the sea for taking her life and the lives of others, Jingwei tirelessly carries pebbles or twigs from western mountains to drop into the sea in an attempt to fill it.The sea mocks Jingwei's efforts but she remains resolute in her mission. She vows to continue filling the sea until it is completely filled - even if it takes millions of years or lasts until the end of time.
Jingwei's determination drives her to repeatedly fly back and forth between the western mountains and the East Sea without rest. And so she continues this relentless task even today.
太阳神炎帝有一个小女儿，名叫女娃，是他最钟爱的女儿．有一天，女娃驾着小船，到东海去游玩，不幸海上起了风浪，像山一样的海浪把小船打翻，女娃就淹死在海里，永远不回来了。炎帝固然挂念他的女儿。但都不能用他的光和热来使她死而复生，只好独自悲伤罢了。
女娃不甘心她的死，她的魂灵变化做了一只小鸟，名叫“精卫”。精卫长着花脑袋、白嘴壳、红脚爪，大小有点像乌鸦，住在北方的发鸠山。她恨无情的大海夺去了她年轻的生命，因此她常常飞到西山去衔一粒小石子，或是一段小树枝；展翅高飞，一直飞到东海。她在波涛汹涌的海面上回翔着，把石子或树枝投下去，要想把大海填平。
大海奔腾着，咆哮着，露出雪亮亮的牙齿。凶恶地嘲笑着：“小鸟儿，算了罢，你这工作就算干上一百万年，也休想把大海填平呢。”
精卫在高空答复大海：“哪怕是干上一千万年，一万万年，干到宇宙的终尽，世界的末日，我也要把你填平！”
“你为什么衔恨我这样深呢？”
“因为你呀——夺取了我年轻的生命，将来还会有许多年轻无辜的生命要被你无情地夺去。”
“傻鸟儿．那么你就干吧——干吧！”大海哈哈地大笑了。
精卫在高空悲啸着：“我要干的！我要干的！我要永无休止地干下去的！这叫人悲恨的大海啊，总有一天我会把你填成平地！”
她飞翔着，啸叫着，离开大海，又飞回西山去；把西山上的石子和树枝衔来投进大海。她就这样往复飞翔，从不休息，直到今天她还在做着这种工作。
